Some cities simply get under your skin — and for me, Istanbul is one of them.
I’ve visited Istanbul several times over the years, and it remains one of my favorite cities in the world. There’s something about the energy, the layers of history, and the light on the Bosphorus at sunset that feels both grounding and electric at the same time. So when the opportunity came up to return to Turkey for a FAM (familiarization) trip that includes both Istanbul and Cappadocia, I couldn’t say yes fast enough.
Yes, I’m going somewhere I already love — but this time I’m going with my advisor hat fully on.
Istanbul is one of those rare places that truly lives up to the hype. It straddles Europe and Asia, past and present, tradition and modernity. You can sip Turkish coffee in a centuries-old courtyard in the morning and enjoy a chic rooftop dinner overlooking the Bosphorus that evening. Of course there are the icons — Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar, and Topkapi Palace — and they are magnificent every single time. But what makes Istanbul special to me are the quieter moments: wandering cobblestone streets early in the morning, watching ferries cross the water at sunset, discovering a tucked-away boutique hotel with impeccable service.
On this FAM trip, I’ll be revisiting favorite properties and touring new ones. I’ll be meeting hotel managers, private guides, and transportation partners. I’ll be testing arrival experiences, reviewing suites, sampling menus, and evaluating neighborhoods — not as a tourist, but as your advocate. Because while I already love the city, my job is to understand it even better for you.
Which hotel is best for a honeymoon couple? Which property offers the easiest access for clients who want to walk everywhere? Who is the guide that truly brings Ottoman history to life in a way that feels personal and engaging? These are the details that don’t show up on a website — and they matter.
After Istanbul, we head inland to Cappadocia, and if Istanbul feels vibrant and layered, Cappadocia feels almost otherworldly. The landscape looks like something from a dream. Soft volcanic rock has been carved by nature into fairy chimneys, cave homes, and sweeping valleys that glow pink and gold at sunrise. Boutique cave hotels are built directly into the rock, blending ancient history with modern comfort in the most beautiful way.
And yes — I’m finally doing the hot air balloon ride.
Watching dozens of balloons rise quietly into the sky at sunrise is one of those iconic travel images that draws people to the region. This time, I’ll be in one of them, floating above the valleys as the first light spills across the landscape. I’m equal parts excited and awed at the thought of it, and I cannot wait to experience it firsthand so I can confidently guide clients on whether it’s right for them and how to plan it perfectly.
As with Istanbul, I’ll be meeting local suppliers in Cappadocia — boutique hotel owners, private guides, and experience curators. I’ll be evaluating the flow of the balloon experience, touring cave suites to see which ones truly deliver privacy and luxury, and exploring immersive experiences like pottery workshops and guided hikes through hidden valleys. It’s one thing to see the photos. It’s another to stand there yourself and say, “Yes. This is the one.”
FAM trips aren’t vacations — they’re working trips designed to deepen relationships and refine expertise. When I meet suppliers face-to-face, those connections translate into smoother experiences for my clients. When I’ve personally walked through a hotel suite, experienced the airport transfer, or met the guide who will be leading your tour, I can recommend with complete confidence. But, to be honest, they are also an incredible opportunity for me to bond with my colleagues and drink in the magic of new destinations!
For you, that means seamless arrivals, thoughtfully matched hotels, private guides who feel like storytellers rather than lecturers, and itineraries that flow effortlessly from beginning to end. Luxury isn’t just about beautiful properties. It’s about ease, access, and knowing every detail has been carefully considered long before you board the plane.
Turkey blends culture, cuisine, history, and genuine hospitality in such a compelling way. Whether you’re drawn to Istanbul’s vibrant rhythm or the quiet magic of Cappadocia at sunrise, it’s a destination that stays with you long after you return home. I’m so excited to revisit a city I adore and to experience Cappadocia from above in a hot air balloon.
If Turkey has been on your list — for a milestone celebration, a romantic escape, or a deeply immersive cultural journey — I would love to design something extraordinary for you. And if you cruise the lower Danube – you can add Istanbul as a post-cruise add on. Why not stay a few extra days?
In the meantime, I invite you to follow along. I’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes moments, hotel tours, supplier visits, and that sunrise balloon ride from Cappadocia on Instagram and Facebook. I’d love for you to come along for the adventure.
